WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price

Has anyone seen this documentary? I'm watching it right now and it's making me sick! If you frequent a walmart store because you think it is saving you money and leading to a better quality of life for your family, you should rent this documentary. You're in for a big suprise. This movie shows that walmart doesn't care about anything except making its owners rich. I'd always heard a lot of negative references to the store and I never knew what they were about, now I do.

People don't seem to understand, Walmart has incredible pricing and they are able to get this low pricing because they beat the manufacturers up for lower than normal wholesale pricing based on projected volume. The manufacturer has to give Walmart lower pricing than other wholesale accounts which in turns leads to higher volume for the manufacturer and in order to keep up with this demand they have to hire more employees which they can only pay minimum wage in order to give Walmart the pricing they demand. Walmart holds pricing and wages down.

minimum wage is practically 7 dollars an hour. with all the incompetent workers out there if your not worth paying more to keep you dont deserve that much. also walmart is a business. businesses are there to make money, not save puppies from forest fires. also, if workers are forced to hire more people that's a good thing. 20 people making 14 an hour is not as good as 40 people making 7. those unemployed would be paid by the government for nothing instead of actually getting a job. and if you don't like your time only being worth $7 an hour, get educated and make sure it isn't.

Heh - that's why Walmart is bad for business. Granted alot of people do shop there for their low prices. Walmart got everybody by the *****.
Are you referring to the documentary called Walmart - Bad for Business ? That was shown on PBS last year.
Imagine this we ship raw materials to China (paper, steel, plastic, etc ...) at a rate of about 3.5 million $$ (?) and in return we get products from China 100 times that. Amazing isn't it ?

I love all the critics of Wal Mart. Funny thing is how so few of them work for Wal Mart....
I know a guy who works there part time
. He got a $1400 profit sharing check for the year. How many companies do that for part time employees? If it is such a bad place to work why do so many people apply for jobs there everytime the open a new store?
Capitalism folks, capitalism.

Well there is the largest sexual discrimination case going against them right now. It covers all female employees since December 98. If the women win, the punitive damages could be huge!

i actually think this case was settled. the women made out pretty well if its the one im thinking of. which yea, really crappy thing of walmart to do. but its fixed now and other companies have done worse without anyone knowing about it (or at least it gettign too publicized)

forced to hire more people that's a good thing
Except they don't actually hire more people. Each store is understaffed purposefully and the employees know if they don't work overtime w/out any pay at all they will be fired.

I'm referring to the one in my title "WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price"
get educated and make sure it isn't.
It's a nice thought, but not everyone can afford it and there is a difference between not having an education and being taken advantage of. Also, just because you are not smart enough to get a college education doesn't mean you should be treated the way walmart treats their employees.
They get paid do they not..What else do people want..An employer can not hold your hand
They don't pay them enough to live on and then encourage them to go on government assisted programs. They go in and delete hours off the record so they don't have to pay them as much. As I mentioned before, they make it clear that if they don't work past their shift for free they will be fired. That's only the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Check out the movie, you will have no idea how bad they are until you do.

Are you saying it's all a hoax? A woman asked why she wasn't getting a promotion to be a manager and he said she wasn't what they were looking for. She asked if it was because she was black or because she was a female. The manager said "2 out of 2 isn't bad". That's isn't proof enough in court, but that's just on example. They are incredibly predujiced against women there.

i worked in the grocery biz for almost 15 years... when the wal mart opened up a handful of the managers jumped ship... i wish i would have, cuz those guys made 20 to 30k more than the managers where i chose to stay... their bonuses were/are huge... they do take care of their employees, but they also limit the hours most work so they wont be included the companies health care plan...
i personally shop where its convenient now... if i am by the wally world i will shop it...

do you know how HIGHLY illegal this is??? there is NO way that 100's of employees would stand for working off the clock... OSHA would have Wal Mart hanging from a tree if they caught wally world forcing OTC work... and all it takes is ONE phone call from a disgruntled worker to the local OSHA department and they will be in the store within 3 days... and then if they get another, they will observe your operation... i know this because i dealt with it first hand... ohhh and by the way... there is a sign by the time clock that reads "Working Off The Clock Is Illegal... Please report this immediately if you see or hear about any associate working off the clock"...
its odd that you make these statements about them with out actually working there...
