want to start saltwater tank

I currently have a 90g freshwater tank set up but would like to change saltwater...
can i use my current filter in any way?( filstar XP3 canister rated for 175gal) can this be used or no, also any suggestions on other places to find info than this forum( which is one the best ive seen )? i been looking on the net but finding myself going in circles! any help in getting me in the right path as far as filters, sumps, skimmers, etc. would be great!

I read them a they will be very useful in the future. I think i'm a long way from starting a tank though . From what ive been reading on this forum is that patience and knowledge are key to a successful SW tank.
