Hello. I am wanting to try SPS coral for the first time. It will go into my 55 gallon that I have set up. I have nova extreme pro T5HO lights. I am 75#s of live rock. My question is I want to try the birdsnest coral. If I place it high in my tank will it survive? Also I have seen different colors of birdsnest are other's easier to care for then others?
Thanks for reading and helping me in my decision.

I wouldnt start with a Birdsnest, they are kind of sensitive IMO.I would start with a Montipora Digita ,they are pretty hardy.

do u hv any corals? how r they doing? if everything is doing great in ur tank, then give it a shot. placing the birdsnest at mid to top is good with medium indirect flow.

I have all kinds of zoo's, LPS and softies. they are doing excellent and I have had them for a year now with no problems and water changes every week.

Birds nest would be fine in the upper part of your tank, but they need lots of flow. How much flow do you have in your DT?

not positive on the exact flow, but I have to korillia 3's and one 4 and one 2 to make sure there are no dead spots in the tank.

In my experience, the green birds nest is easier than the red or pink.
As for flow & light, you should be fine.

I've had a pink birdsnest (it's an ORA pink birdsnest from this site) for 2 months in my 55 under T5's and it has about 20 new branches starting to grow off the tips. It's about half way up in the tank and honestly, I don't think I've done more than one water change since I put it in. I thought for sure it would bleach out as soon as I put it in, but decided to experiment and it's doing great. I bet it will double in size within 6 months.

I think you'll be fine you have got plenty of flow, just keep up on your water parameters and it will grow like a weed.
