Hey All,
After getting so much advise from everyone on this board, I converted my 55 gal tank to saltwater this past weekend.
Before I set it up I went to this huge tropiucal fish store in central jersey, and I am so thankful I did because they sell there actual salt water to customers for water changes and tank set up. I saved so much time and effort doing this, for only $1 per gallon for their tank processed salt water.
SO long story short, loaded up approx 50lbs of cc, 25 lbs of LR, and the salt water from my LFS.
The cycle took about a day and a half, and now I have a SWT with all levels perfect and balanced....
SO after two days I added a yellow tank and a clownfish along with some bacteria in a packet......
I am waiting for the levels to spike (Amonia and Nitrate I think) and then I am able to add another fish or so....
Anyway, I have to recommend Tropicaqaurium to any SWF fan in Jersey.. An amazing store with a awesome display, a sick and plentiful selection and totally clean and well kept...
Any thoughts from Arckey or anyone else??

holy crap thats alot. the most expensive store around here is only 58 cents, the norm is 38. selling there used water for 1.00 sounds like crap to me.
as for used tank water that sound rather strang to me. but if it works for you i guess thats all that matters. many stores run things like copper through there systems to help with ich in such cramped crowded tanks. not somthing you want if you plan to go reef

oceana, I know it seems like the easy road out but after pricing what it would cost to get a RO/DI system, It was much cheaper. For me it was the reduction in cycle time that was the main driver for me to go with it... As most men, I am so pysched and eager to setup my tank...
I dont know how their filtration is but I saw the system in the back of the store and hoenstly it probably cost well over 800k.. I mean I was kind of floored by the size of their filtration system..
In there store they have 3 2500 gal SWT's with anything and everything and probably about 150 small 30 tanks with fish for purchase... After looking at every other LFS, after seeing their presentation, I was unbelievably happy with their set up... I didnt even see like a ton of algae in their tanks compared to other stores that looked so disguisting and flithy I would be nervious to introduce anything to my tanks from there...
I dont know, I hope it all works out!!

Whoa slow down...return the fish your tank is not ready.

Ammonia is DEADLY to fish..If it has not spiked yet then why do you say your tank cycled in a day and a half?

Please return your fish they will not make it through the cycle....whom ever gave you this advice is an idiot. Not your fault you were given horrible advise but please dont take just one guys opinion.

I bought the SW from the store that they use in their tanks... I never started with water that was converted to salt water...
They told me all the levels and water is totally processed and ready to accept fish as it is the same water they use in their tanks....
I was told when you add a couple of fish the levels may increase as the tank builds up the different things produced like waste from the fish, then it will settle and then I can add new fish... Is that incorrect?
