my father passed away 6/1/06. He was cremated and we still have his ashes, this was the email my mom just sent out to our other family members concerning what will be done with the ashes.
Hello to the best Family!
I wanted to update you all on what Mike, Jeff, Diane and I have arranged regarding the internment of Dennis' ashes. We had decided shortly after Dennis died that we wanted to have his ashes placed in an underwater memorial reef that was just beginning construction at that time. We felt that the water always brought him so much pleasure and it was so closely connected to him in our minds that this just seemed perfect for us. It's taken 2 years for all of us to be ready, as well as for the site to be up and running. The reef is under development off Miami, run by the Neptune Society. You can see their plans at www.nmreef.com . Probably within the next few weeks they will be ready for the final placement. It is likely that Jeff and MIke will dive to be there when that happens.
For me this brings up a sadness that I haven't felt for a while. The finality of it, the last piece. Ironic, of course, because this whole thing is pretty final from the get-go. But the time is right, and we're all ready and we are all moving forward and Dennis will be at the reef. He, of all of us, would love it.
love to every one of you, grace
i highly suggest checking out the website they have some cool U/W videos of what the project looks like. I loved the idea of seeing the "circle of life", where life blossoms from death, in this full-colored, tangible and observable example.
thanks, mike

I remember seeing this on Discovery channel or something along those lines. Very honorable place for anyone, and this should make you proud as well. What a great honor for your Dad
