I lust wipe them off on a paper towel... I know that is probably not good, but I figure its better than soap in the water.. :)
Where you from in VA?

Danville VA.. I used to travel there alot with work until they sold the stores down there. I work for a company that does all of Belk dept. stores computers and register repair. Nice area. I liked the idea of being close to the water!

I am very careful about what I have on my hands and arms before I put them into my tank. Being female, I have perfume on my wrists and at the elbow, I also use hand cream. I don't think any of that belongs in my tank.
I wash my hands and arms with soap and water then rinse with a lot of warm water. Seems to work for me, tank is doing great so far.

My friend last year took the liberty to clean the glass on my reef tank, some of the product got into the tank and killed everything, some friend.

If you feel your hands and arms are dirty enough to require soap then rinse very well before placing them in the tank.
Soap can be toxic to fish and inverts.
When my hands and arms are extremely dirty like after working on a car then I find it better just to wait another day to mess with the tank.

Ditto, Twoods. If they're that dirty, it can wait. Otherwise I rinse them very well under very hot water, and dry well(don't want tapwater in the tank).

Good ond Joshh. That's what I do. If you wash you're hand before putting them into the tank, use dish soap. It's designed to wash completly off, not like regular sope that can add antibacterial stuff or lotions to your skin.

"I wash my hands and arms with soap and water then rinse with a lot of warm water." and I do use dish soap since it's right behind the tank.

I rinse them very well. I only use soap if I have oil, grease, toner, ink, alot of dirt or sun tan lotion and then I rinse very very well.

I wash my hands with scalding hot water(without the soap), brush my teeth, comb my hair, put on an environmental suit with sterilized gloves and then I'm ready. <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" /> Oh, I almost forgot to mention the half hour I spend in the decontaminating chamber that I use before entering the fish tank room ;)

i am another vote for washing, but rinse very thouroughly, b/c soap is just as bad,
so, yes i wash, very well, and then rinse veven better, very very thoroughly to be sure there is no soap either
