Washing Sand

Do I need to wash the sand before I put it in my aquarium??

I guess you are talking about regular sand, and not live sand. If it's live sand do not wash it. If it is just regular sand you are putting in, then it is usually a good idea to wash it.
The sand will have very small particles in it that will cause your water to get very cloudy. Washing it will not prevent it, but will reduce it a LOT. The cloudiness will settle down after several days, though.

if it's regular sand you need to wash it and cure it! (I just learned about curing, haven't started yet though)
