water change for curing tank?

we are curing a 30# shipment of LR which arrived yesterday, the water is so dirty looking! It is in a 20 gal long with PH, airstone and thermometer (no skimmer) Haven't tested the water, but wondering if we should be changing the water sometime before it is ready to go in the real tank. BTW, couldn't go to bed, just wanted to keep searching for more critters!

Yes change the water out - your not cycling but curing - allowing the dieoff outside the main tank - waterchanges are part of the curing process. You want good water with movement for curing

Hey Ren!
The funniest thing just happened. I clicked on your link to your photos and as I was looking at your Firebird?...or Camero?, I said to myself, "That street and neighborhood looks like Bakersfield, CA", even though I had not seen where you were from yet! You see, I just moved away from Bakersfield about a year ago and those stucco houses and cedar fences brought back memories about my neighborhood. I lived near the WalMart on Rosedale Highway.
Anyways, your tank is great looking, and I hope you have fun with your hobby!

This brings up a few questions. I'm curing 100lbs live rock in my new display tank right now. Its been in there since March 31st. Yesterday I did water tests and I do believe the cycle has completed b/c Ammon=0, trites=0, and trates were about 5-10. I was lead to believe you CAN cycle a new tank while curing rock(kill two birds with one stone). Now I'm wondering if I might be mistaken. Anyone else have an opinion or knowledge on this? Equipment consists of a 72 gal reef ready bowfront with 150lbs of southdown and live sand, 30 gal refugium with 70 lbs southdown and live sand, 30 gal sump, heater, Redsea wavemaker pro w/ 3 Maxi-jet 1200's, Mag 9.5 for return and a Redsea Berlin turbo(awesome skimmer). I'm not currently using any lights but have halide's and pc's as soon as the tank is ready. Everything is looking great in the tank and I am in no hurry to "throw" anything in yet. Sorry to post a ? with a ?.
