How do you do a water change? This is the first time I've done one and im not quite sure how much salt to add to the water, and how much water to add at a time. This is for a 35 gallon tank by the way.

Well the salt bag should have directions on it, depending on how much gal you are changing. I usually do about a half cup per gal, sometimes less depending on how your readings are, you can always add more salt in the levels are low.

always remeber to match water parameters salintiy , temp before changeing the water. airate for 24 hours and then test the water to see if it matches. the directions on the package are suggestions as to where it needs to be but you need to test before adding to the tank to make sure its where it needs to be.

just a side note...don't mix the salt in the tank...add water into a tote or bucket and then add salt. put a powerhead and a heater into the bucket and let it run for 24 hours. test salt level, temp, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia before adding to you tank. as mike said you want all the levels of the new water to match the levels of the water in your display tank. i would change about 4 gallons per week and top off with fresh water. try to use rodi water if you can to help prevent unwanted algae blooms.
