Water Change?

My tank is 40 Gallons with 10#LR and I am on day 12 and ammonia is 0, Nitrites 1.0, Nitrates 0, PH 8.3. I also have two damsels in there because that was what the LFS said to do and that was before I started reading on this site and noticed that a lot of people say that you shouldn't use Damsels to cycle your tank. Anyhow my question is should I do a little water change to get rid of Nitrites or is that just part of the cycle and I need to let that happen? Any help would be appreciated.

You really should hold off on doing anything at all(including water changes) to the tank till the cycle is compleatly done. That is till the ammo and nitrites have spiked and both have been zero for a couple weeks.Even then a water change is not reallneeded till the nitrates rise above 30-40...You can however start adding trace element suppliments like Coral-vite after the ammo and nitrate spikes....
