water changes/nitrate spike

should water changes be done with salt water or fresh water and how often , i know top off should usually be done with fresh water right because salt does not evaporate..? oh and does anybody use a denitrofier and if so did you make it your self and does it work,,,my nitriets finally got to zero but now i'm having a spike of nitrates i know they are not necessarily harmfull but i think they are causing an algea bloom in my tank...............

water changes should be done with saltwater. i do 10% water changes weekly. make sure you mix your saltwater in a container with a heater and powerhead for 24 hours before adding it to your tank. temp and salt level should match your tanks water before you add it.
