Water changes w/out Nitrates.

How often should I do water changes when the nitrates never rise? And what percentage of water?
I did a 10% change last month and unless it's inadequate I will probably do the same this month.
Thanks.

If all your number s are OK I would do a 10 to 25 % water change. My numbers are normally perfect as far as nitrites, nitrates, PH, Amon. etc. But I still do the water change. I read I believe on this BB that it replaces the trace elimates, I also vacuum my bottom everytime to insure the clean up grew did not miss anything. This has kept my numbers great, so I figure don't mess up a good thing. I also have my water tested twice per month.

I do a 5 gal water change on both my 55's once a month....all chemistry is within range......I've got a system in place to keep things under control and figure why change now.......regular water changes are in my opinion a vital part of the process

The above 2 posts are correct. Even if your water conditions are excellent it is a good idea to do a water change to replace the vital trace elements. How often depends on your bioload but I would say 10% at least once a month.
