water changes?

I have a 90 gal. fish only tank, and a 65 reef tank. Both hsve expensive deltec skimmers on them, and I was wondering how much and how often water should be changed. Thanks for any comments/suggestions!!!

I usually do a 10% water change every 2-6 weeks on my 55 gal but it usually depends on my parameters.

Your parameters are a very important factor in how often you change the water, especially in the reef.

Usually, if my nitrate reads above 5ppm in my reef I do a water change and check all the equipment.

Water changes are also important as they help to replenish trace elements. Like mentioned, frequency has a lot to do with stock etc, but anywhere from 10-20% biweekly is usually enough.

yeah if your tank is a full blown reef with a lot of corals your tank will benifit from more frequent water changes to replace the trace elements that are used up. for a lighlty stocked reef the water parameters are the best indicator of when a water change is needed/.
