I'm tryin to get ideas from other peoples set-ups so i can find the best place to put powerheads. I have an 85 with 3 PH in it now and have a hard time finding the perfect current. Any suggestions or pics of your placement???? I also get a good amount of buildup(detrius and even brown algea) on the sand bed, what critters are the best to handle this. Heard blue-legged hermits can be mean! Sorry so long!! <img src="graemlins//yeahright.gif" border="0" alt="[yeahright]" />

try some of the pre-packaged reef setups from SWF.com. They list recommended tank sizes on the packages. I put a no-claws and a squiky clean in my 100gl. Everyone seems to be doing thier jobs.
Oh Powerheads just depend on what ya want and what the plans for the tank inhabitants is. High/low areas - moderate all over - think that Powerhead placement falls into broomers statement- your tank-your choice.

i have 4 powerheads in my 100 gallon tank. i have two hagen 802s rated at 400 gph and two hagen 402s rates at 270 gph. that means the total tank volume is recirculated 13-14 times per hour. instead of trying to find the perfect tank current, i set the powerheads to deliver water to the more stagnant areas, made note which were the higher, moderate, and lower current areas, and placed corals accordingly. in other words, i didn't set up the current scheme based on where the corals were located...i based coral location on flow patterns :) hope this helps...
