Water Dechlorination

Hiya guys me again.
I saw somewhere (not sure if it was on this board or not) that you can dechlorinate your water by putting it in buckets and letting the chlorine evaporate so to speak.
Is this true and does it work on just chlorine or does it work on chloramine too. Not sure which our water company uses (just need to know until may, in may we move to a town that doesn't use either)
And if this is true how long should the water sit in buckets.
Thanks
Dave

both those chemicals dissolve out of water if left out for 24 hours. if you have a tank setup already with no fish it will dissolve soon. and you do not have to worry about putting decholorinator in the tank.

chlorine & chloramine is the least of your problems if you're using tap water but no it does not always work for chloramine. Some say it does but the article I read suggests most of the time it does not.
I would highly recommend looking into a RO/DI unit or purchasing distilled or RO/DI water. Tap water can contain all types of impurities that doesn't need to be added to a saltwater tank.

No, distilled water does not have chlorine, chloramine or anything else. It's just pure H2O.

Thanks for the info. I do use the Dechlorinator right now but at 5 bucks a bottle and 6 tanks to use it in, it gets rather expensive.
Thanks for the input, I'll call my water company and find out which one they are using.
