Water Level in Biocube

I am having trouble adjusting the water level in the sump of my 29 G Biocube. The level stays too high and I'm not sure how to adjust it. I would like to keep the level within the range set on the tank.

What kind of filtration are you running? I have a 29g biocube, too. I keep my level a couple of inches above max, but I am not running the bioballs or their filter cartridge.

I am running bioballs without the cartridge filter. Shouldn't the level be lower than 2 inches below the Max level so that the bioballs are "dry"??

I also took out the bio balls and filter cartridge and haven't had any problems with the water level

That's why I asked what kind of filtration you were running. With the bioballs, you are always going to have problems with your water level. They, also, breed nitrates. I would highly suggest you replace them with either live rock rubble or do what I did. I used 2 jars of Seachem Matrix (which you never have to replace), 1 bag of Seachem Purigen (which when dirty you can recharge) and filter foam/floss. In the right chamber I float a bag of Seachem Carbon. I just added some extra filter floss on top of the middle grate for a little extra filtration. With all of this, you can run more water in your tank because the filtering is now more like a sump. Some people that use the live rock rubble, also put macro algae in with it and scratch off a little of the paint on the back and attach a little light for it to grow. I feel like I have enough live rock (30 lbs of Kaileni and Buna) so I combined a couple of other's suggestions and went with the filtering media above. Along with using Seachem's Reef Salt, I have really had great water parameters so I'm happy!

I use LR and filter floss in my rear chamber and keep the water level to the top of the glass indicator on the side of the tank. No need for dry filtratation anymore.. With the increased size of my new pump I dont have to worry about getting it down to where the stock pump was, now it sits on top of the sponge but the water level never gets down that far.
