water level problem....

hope i can explain this right.... when i first got my fuse i set up and it worked fine. ive had it for about a year now and ive seen my water level in the main tank slowly rise, over this year. now the water level is over the top of the overflow box and is high enough that i can see the center brace of the tank if i look up toward the lights through the water. and since this has happened ive had the power go out a few times and my tank floods the living room cuz the water level is so high in the main tank. ive messed with the overflow box trying to get the level in the fuse to go up and lower the main tanks water level but the water level stays the same in the main tank, no matter how low i put the overflow box. if i raise the overflow box the water level in the main tank rises and the fuse lowers, and thats what is supposed to happen, but i cant get it past a certain point going the other way. whats the problem and how do i fix it? :notsure: :help: ive read in other post that people clean their u tubes, does this help? ive never cleaned mine but mine arent bad enough that i cant see into them..... well let me know and thanks in advance

Sounds like your return tot he tank is slowly increasing more than the outflow. Do a complete cleaning of your overflow and plumbing as even a small change in tube diameter can have a huge effect on flow rates. Going back to highschool physics, it's called Ohm's law where a tiny change in the diameter has a effect on resistance to the thrid power.
You may have a snail shell or something that you can't see somewhere.
The problem may not be your U-tube either. Check the rest of the plumbing.
