water levels

Is there a rule about the hight of your water level? If there is how many inches from the water level to the hood of the tank?
Mine is about a inch is that too high?

Myself,and I believe most everyone else, Keeps it just above the plastic rim around the top of the tank...That way you cant actually see it from outside...If you have an acrylic tank,,,Then 1-1 1/2 inches down from the top will do...

I have to agree with Mr. salty. I have an acrylic tank with a gravity over flow box and the company put it 1 1/2 just below.
