Can anyone tell me what is the average gph you should have in an 55 gallon aquarium. I am trying to decide on what powerheads to buy. Any feedback would be helpful.

Completly depends on what kind of setup you are looking to do. i have a FOWLR, its got a ~18x turnover rate. Reefs need atleast 25x FOWLR 15-20x

what do you mean 18x? What are your powerheads? 250gph etc? How many do you have?

He means he has 18 x his volume.
For your set-up that is about 990gph
