Water Noise Question

I've been basically trying to make my tank as quiet as absolute and realistically possible. I have a All-Glass built in overflow and wet-dry filter under tank. I've ran a PVC pipe out of the bottom of my tank and into a 90 degree elbow, then through about 1' clear tubing and then directly into the filter. I hear the water (I think) hitting the 90 degree elbow. That noise also reverbs through the pvc (I think) and out through the overflow as well. I put some rags around the pipe to try and muffle the noise and it does help a bit. I guess my question is this, if there was no air in that line, would you still hear the noise? ie. Would a larger sump pump would put more water into the tank which would put more water into the overflow which would send more water down the pipe which would eliminate the air? Is this a correct philosophy? Can anyone think of anything else outside of trying to eliminate the 90 degree elbow? Obviously I'm no plumber...

I dont see how an elbow can cause noise. The only thing that usually causes noise is air. Make sure every thing is kept under sypon and it should be ok. Also I dont think a bigger sump pump would out more water in you overflow. One the down tube of your overflow cut a small piece of the foam pad from around your down tube and put it in the hole. This will make the water go through the sponge before falling to the pipe. This is where the noise is coming from. Send me a pic and I can probably help more. db7863@yahoo.com

I will take pictures this weekend and email them to you... I did, however, deaden the sound in the whole stand to the point where I don't really even need to worry about it anymore.
