Water pump problems

I ordered a magdrive 7 by danner for my 55 gal. It was to be used to pump the water from my sump to the all glass overflow system. WELL, the gph is way too high and after about ten seconds of running, all the water is gone from my filter and cant travel fast enough to resupply to the pump. Someone on this forum told me to get that and said the pump would work, but which pump should I get to replace the magdrive 7? A magdrive with a flow rating of 500 gph or a flow rating of 350 gph?

Before you go changing pumps, make sure you have enough total water in your system. Sometimes you have to add more to your sump until you get the balance correct.
If you've done that and your pump will/or is about to make your main tank overflow you can add a ball valve to the output of your mag 7. Don't cost much, a couple of dollars. Then you can just "tune" your outflow to match your drain. Less hassle than buying another pump.
HTH. and Good Luck!
