water pump

i'm in the process of a diy skimmer and i need some advice on a good water pump that'll make the fine bubbles needed on the skimmer.

What is the dimensions of your skimmer?
Mine is 3" diameter with 1.25' vertical lift for the bubbles. I am using a RIO 600 RV pump but I am thinking of upgrading to increase performance.
