Water Question

Hello,
2 questions:
#1-Is using distilled water okay in my tank?
#2-How much of a difference in quality is there between distilled water and R/O water?
I started my tank (125 gal) with regular tap water but since then(3 months) on all my water additions, I have been adding R/O water that I get from Wal-Mart(.33/gal).
Last night I added just 1 gallon of distilled water in the tank. Hope this is OK?

I can't answer your second question, but one thing to worry about with respect to distilled water is the distiller. Most distillers have metalic chambers and copper piping, which is not a plus when it comes to aquarium water. I would go with RO/DI if possible. Good Luck.

The difference between the 2 is that distilled is a "purification" process by steaming the water and collecting the steam, which kills bacteria.
RO systems "treat" the water by using up to 3 filters and an RO membrane. Water is run through the filters and then FORCED through the RO membrane which produces the closest thing to pure water (water without minerals i.e. salt, lead etc etc).
