Water Questions...

OK Guys... I'm finally getting on the band wagon here. I am now not using raw saltwater to do my changes.(I have 2 fish in hosp tank due to what I think might be fin rot.) I purchased a 45 gal rubbermaid bucket to premix water and I have a powerhead in there for movement. It will stand for atleast 48 housr before use.
Question One:
How do I keep the water warm enough. Does everybody just use a submersible heater or what?
I am also trying to seed a filter in my main tank to try to help my hospital tank along. (I set it up using water from my main tank, but my levels are still high.)
Question Two:
How long does it take to seed a filter. I have it laying on the bottom of my main tank.
And to finish this off... I just purchased my 2nd tank!!! But I don't expect to have any fish in there till fall. (I will be doing the new one totally diffrent!!!
THANKS!!!

Im not sure on how long it takes to seed a filter... have you ever tried live bacteria supplements? These add the beneficial bacteria to your aquarium that you want, without the wait. I have always used Cycle in ALL of my SW tanks and i have found that it REALLY speeds up your cycling process. This would really help you "seed" your filter with the "good" bacteria that you want ALOT faster. Cycle will also help you lower your ammonia and nitrite lvls in the tank... :D

Hi, I use a submersible heater and floating heater in my bucket w/saltwater for any water changes. When the water temp. reaches the SAME temp as your tank - you are ready to go!
P.S. I mix salt myself 24hours in advance of my monthly cleaning/maintenance.
This is just my system. I am no way an expert at this hobby but, it works for me :)

Thanks for the info.... I just got home with my submersible heater!!! :)
As for cycle additive, I am using that right now too. I am just wanting to speed up the cycle process in my hosp tank so I can stop doing daily water changes!!!
