Water rises.... lowers and gurggles. what should i adjust?

so i've made some changes in my set up and moved my sump into the basement. I upgraded the pump since there was considerably much more head pressure, and thats really the only change that should be affecting this as all the lines were kept the existing size.
the water level in the overflow raises about 1", then drains rapidly and gurggles. I expect that i'm getting more flow into the tank now as i upgraded to a mag 12 pump from a mag 7, and added about 5 more feet of head pressure. So do i need to let more air flow into the overflow drain? It's a corner flow tank that has the standard overflow kit that has the hose coming up out of the pvc 90* fitting. Do i need to make that hole bigger and fit it with a larger hose and put an adjustable valve on it?
I've tried to read up on what is causing this problem, but i couldn't find a definitive answer of what fixes it. people like to say "(x) is the problem" but don't mention how to fix (x)

Yes - you need more air behind your drain. Could you send a picture, 1" drains are typically rated for 600 gph, you might have too much flow. Is there a bypass on your pump or can you throttle it back.

what would you need a picture of? I have a mag 12 with 10-11' of head pressure, so it should be rated at right about 600gph max on a .75" return line.
If i make the hole bigger to let more air being it, i want to put a valve there so i can adjust it. I want to be able to do this and still put the glass top on my tank. Is it a problem if i put a 90 on it to let the air in that way? or does is have to be coming straight out from the top?

I have not come out the side of a 90 bend but, I think it should still work because the air is siphoned down the pipe. I do agree that more air will stop the gurgles, it will make the tank drain louder so a valve would help dial it in to keep it as quit as you can. I would pull the glass top but that is just me....

Here is what I am looking for a picture of - is your system a stand pipe with a bulkhead at the bottom or a bulkhead through the side like mine.

I've got to keep the glass tops.. Already had some fish decide to try living on the carpet rather than the water.. Also would like to keep my evaporation down.

Here is a picture of what I have. I know the picture is crappy but you should be able to tell what i'm dealing with here. The tank is drilled on the bottom and the little tube that comes up comes out of the bend of a 90 and I know that it is pretty long. So, do i need to feed a longer tube down there, or is opening the hole bigger enough?

You need to have a tee at the top of your pipe - then attach a 90 elbow to the horizontal inlet of the tee, at the top of the tee add a short straight piece with a cap. The cap you should drill a hole and install a small valve to adjust the air intake. Google Durso pipes and you will see.

i understand how durso pipes work... I just don't want to buy fittings a screw around with it too much. the tube letting air in right now is pretty small, I"m thinking i'm going to drill the hole out bigger and put some pex tubing in it with a valve on the end. Do you see any problem with that?
It's just that if i put a tee on it then i need to shorten it so i can fit all that in with a top on, then i'm screwing with the water level and all that stuff

I had the same problem when I first started ( check my earlier threads). It was fixed by making the hole where the little stiff airline sticks up, just a little bit bigger to let in more air. Then, in it's place put a wider airline.

Well you ASKED how to fix it. Your elbow shouldn't be glued to the stand pipe, and the teeth on your overflow control the height of the water in the tank.

so what i did was drill the hole to 1/4" in and put a piece of pex tubing in it and that helped a bit. What would happen is it would just take longer in between each time it would make the gurggling sound.
So then i drilled the hole to 3/8", but then it was a little loud and you could hear the water draining. I put a 90* on it so that i could fit a valve, put the valve on it and messed with making closing it enough that you didn't hear the water, but that it wouldn't start the gurggling thing again.
thanks for the help

Keep playing with the valve - if the water drains to fast close the valve a bit, very little, just adjust slowly and believe me you will stop the gurgling sound.

So if I understand this correctly, you put a 90* on the pex tubing for the valve? The reason I ask is I've solved my problem about 95%, but I'd still like to fine tune it. If this seems to work after a few weeks, please post it. Also, could you post a picture of the final result?

Sorry for this being such a dark picture, but here is what I did.
I did not use the 90 as the valve, I just had to put the 90 on it so i could fit a valve on it and keep the glass top on without having to cut or add pvc pieces.
so far it seems like it has solved my problem, All i should have to do is adjust the valve if i happen to notice any noises.
