I have had my 55 gal w/lr for about 6 to 7 months this is my first summer and I just lost my coarl beauty and a copper buterfly fish I checked water cond. everything is ok. I then looked at my water temp and realized it is at 87 degrees. My tank is in my finished basement and I had no idea how hot it would be down their because I just completed it this winter. I do not have a/c or dehumidifier. I am looking to purchase one now due to this problem. My question is how can I bring my water temp down without killing more fish?

I've read about people taking empty 20oz bottles and willing them with ro water and freezing them. Then they just put them in there tank and it helps bring the temp down. Good luck, I hope that you can get your ac soon.

Who does that???????
Add a fan or two to move air across the surface of the tank to disperse some of the heat. This will help a little. Your other options are (a) air conditioner (b) chiller. You and you fish both would benefit more from option (a).

Couple of questions:
1. Whats the temp of the room?
2. What kind of lights on the tank?
3. Do you have glass lids on the tank?
