Hey guys, I was wondering what you think is the ideal temp. to keep a fish only tank at. I have my temp. at 76 right now in an aggressive set up.

At a higher temp a fishes osmoregulation is slowed. At a lower temp, the fish can breathe easier and is less stressed because its body doesn't have to work as hard. You don't want to go too low because then the fish become more succeptable to parasites and such. In my opinion the temp should be about 79 in a fish only set up for optimal osmoregulation.

So in other words, you don't listen to your own advice?
Whether this is a FO or a reef tank shouldn't matter, the fish are adapted to live in warmer waters. Studies done on reefs show that the temps range 80 to 84 with 82 being the optimum temp.
When you alter their normal conditions, even if you are doing so with the best of intentions, it doesn't change the fact that this is not what they have spent the last million or so years adapting to......

Yes it does matter whether it's a FO or a reef tank. As mentioned fish can tolerate lower temps than corals can. This is because fish have the ability to move through the temp gradient in a reef where as the coral can't and the water must be maintained at a higher temp. if infact it is a reef tank. Makes sense when you think about it. Just stick with 80 and all it good.
