Water Temp

I have had my 90 reef set up for about 14 months. THis weekend I changed the return pump from submersed mag 12 to an expernal pump. The water temp has increased about 3 degrees to 81.5. Is this OK, as long as I can keep the temp consistant.

if you can keep it stable that's ok. kinda warm for your fish, but not lethal.
Mine goes from 78 to 80 when the lights go on for 8 hours.
Have you tried to drop the temp on your heaters?

heater is not kicking on at all. I guess I watch it for a while before I drop $500 on a chiller.

That temp is fine. I know alot of people that run there tanks a 82. Just try and keep the swing down. On tanks Ihad that ran hot I would run the heater at night to keep it up when the lights were off.
Also something you need to ask yourself is running that pump worth the added expense of a chiller if it comes to that? keep in mind not only are they expensive upfront but they run your power bill up also.
