Here's what I do on vacation...once I plumb to the basement I will probably set it up permanently it worked so well....Someone pointed out though that I have not taken into consideration what might happen in a power failure, if the level of the sump comes up and the top off continues....hmmm.

I have a small bulkhead in the trash can with a line to the sump. gravity allows water to flow from the trash can to the sump which is controlled by the float valve. As there is evaporation the float valve drops and opens the valve to allow water to flow into the sump...this in turn raises the float valve and shuts off the water supply. So the salinity is maintained at a constant range.

i use a jbj auto top off system ..... it uses a float to sence when the waters low and activates a small power head in a remote fresh ro/di tub of water that pumps the water into the sump.....
does this throughout the day so no major changes in salinity occur....
and i evaporate about 3 gallons of water a day in my 180 so its very helpful to have something else do it for u!

i use a 44 gallon rubbermain roughneck tub filled with RO water. I have an airline running into it with an aqualifter pump on it on a timer. the time kicks the pump on three times a day for 15 minutes each time and maintains the sump level perfectly. You will have to watch and see how much you evap daily. I have a 180 that evaps approx 2-3 gallons daily so the unit works perfectly at these settings. the pump and airline cost a whopping $11.00 and the rubbermaid tub was on sale a lowes for $9.99. Its cheap, kinda a rdneck way to do it but it works , so I ran with it. Just plug the pump in and see how much it pumps in a certain time to set it up...Hope this helps ya :cheer:
