Yea basically none. I have used straight tap water in my salt and fresh tanks in about a half dozen cities since the late 70's. An active plant growth will be all the water conditioning you will ever need.

Sure. you will get plant life in the form of algaes. I recommend you not try to remove the algae just keep the front clean so you can see the fish.

Everything it sounds like to me that we do is experimental. One thing that works for one tank might not work for another. Just like a child. But that don't mean that we are bad parents.

Squishy

Now will chloride removers help if you use tap.
Dont get me wrong I want to have the best for my fish but I cant do all of it at one time so I am trying to figure out what to ivest in first.

You can buy RO water at stores like Walmart or larger supermarkets. Very inexpensive. I pay about .45 a gallon or so.
And yes, you can drink the water from your RO/DI unit. People have them installed in their homes all the time.
:)

You usually can buy this type of water at the LFS or a grocery store. I really highly highly recommend you not to use tap water you will more than likely wind up with a tank full of algae.
You can also buy distilled water. Any water that you buy should be tested for Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, and phosphates. these should all be 0 (test with a fresh water test kit)

My Walmart has a machine where you can fill your own jugs. Alternatively, you can buy it in plastic gallon jugs labeled "drinking water". It states in the small print that it is RO.

Understand your concerns completely.
Forget the ro/di in any form.
If you have not bought the tank yet, the "saved" money can be used to buy a larger system.
to get started: add sand, add saltwater, add macros/plants. Wait a week to insure the macros/plants are growing. Then do everything else. That way you know you have acceptable water for whatever else you want.

Can you do me a favor bob and read my New Tank Thread so you can see where I am and make sure I am on the right track?

No one denies that plant life is very valuable to a saltwater system, but I and most of the other here DO NOT recommend you putting them in your display, they grow like, well like weeds, they will take over your tank and you will have a planted saltwater tank not the beautiful piece of ocean you probably want. Even if you use plant life you should use a pure form of water.

I didn't say that you could not
drink it. I said it is not good for drinking.

Some say its good for you. Some will say its not.
I'm one that will say RO/DI is not good to drink.
So you can do a search here and view other opinions.
Plug in key words "RO" and "drink"
