Water turning green

what would cause the water to turn green? at first it was brown it looked like you had poured a glass of tea in it, i cleaned the glass and done a partial, now the water is green? its a 55 gal fish only, so far i have not lost anything salt level is normal :help:

happened to me too
either you have tons of excess nutirnets in there like phosphates
you do not have enough flow in there (around 15X however many gallosn you have)
you leave your lights on for too long
do lots of little water changes and see how taht helps
