just looking at most watts for my buck over a 20" 10gal. i want my zoa's to go nuts. i really don't want to go with metal halide.
looking at the 18" nova Extreme X2 T5HO 36-40w
or maybe a coral life 20" 96w CFL
both 50/50

Well it was kind of silly to ask the question and forget to look back on here for the answer now wasn't it ( j/k).
You should be fine with that light, I don't think you will have any problems, although I am still sort of green as far as lighting is concerned.
