Weird happenings

Ok, this one is weird. I have a 20 gal with about 25-30 lbs of live rock, live sand, a protein skimmer/filter combo, a powerhead, and dual 50/50 lighting.
I cycled the tank for about 5 weeks before adding anything else to the tank.
Since then, over last 3 weeks, I added in this order:
4 Snails, Kole Tang, Mandarin Goby, Cleaner Shrimp, Flower anemone, and a horseshoe crab.
Here's the weird part. All the fish died, first the tang then the mandarin 2 days later. Both were feeding well... I don't know what happened to them. Two days later (wednesday of last week) the cleaner shrimp kicked the bucket.
After the tang died, I figured it was the water. I checked all the ammonia/cu/nit levels, there is absolutely nothing harmful in the tank. I did a water change (totally filtered/distilled water) after the mandarin died, levels still seemed fine... then the shrimp goes kaput.
What else could I be missing? Why didn't the crab, snails, or anemone die?
