weird looking object in tank

sorry i dont have a picture but on the sides and on the powerheads there are a funnel looking things there are about a half inche and are all over the place. they look like they dont move what are they and are they harmfull thanks.. :help:

They are called Q-tip sponges and they are harmless filter feeders.

I just noticed that I have them in my overflow box a couple days ago.. strange that they just happend to show up there.

It's a guess... I have funnel looking thingsa all over my powerheads and that's what they are so I am assumining they ave the same.
