Weird Royal Gramma Behaviors

Hi, I just got a Royal Gramma and its been acting pretty strange.
When we brought it home from the fish store it was jumping a little in the bag then it stopped.then we acclimated it for about an hour and let it into the tank with our rusty Angel and 2 peppermint shrimp. the shrimp are fine but the angel came over to the gramma and would try and like bump the gramma with its back fin.after that the gramma freaked out and went up to the top of the tank and was swimming sideways and kind of jumping. im pretty sure i heard something about grammas swimming upside down and sideways.
now all the gramma does is sit with its head facing the ceiling against the water pump.
IS THIS NORMAL?
:notsure: :help:

I don't know about NORMAL.... Royal grammas all seem rather abnormal to me. I had some strange behavior from my royal gramma when I first got him.. The swimming sideways and upside down sounds very similar to what mine did. Also for the first day he found a small space to wedge himself into, over time he slowly made his way out into the tank. They seem to be very good at finding very small spaces to crawl into and hide.

i had a r. gramma and he acted strange as well. was outgoing and personal at first, then just one day decided to not come out hardly at all. weird fish. just be careful with pygmy angels. they tend to get agressive with fish that are added after them. so just watch that he doesnt pick on your royal g!

It sounds like your angel was bullying the new guy a bit and it is trying to hide. Keep the lights low and give him some time. Did you do any re-arranging before adding the gramma? The angel may not be too forgiving of a new roommate if not.
