Weird thing happened with my lights today...

One of them went out for a few minutes and then came back on. It was only one, but they are both hooked up to the same electrical outlet. I have 2 MH and they are about a year old. Any idea why it would do that? Does this mean I need to change the bulb?

I have had that happen with several metal halide bulbs. It was like the bulb would try to fire but then turn off. Then, when it tried to fire up a second time 20 minutes later or so, it would fire. Eventually, it gets to the point where it won't fire at all. Your bulb probably needs to be replaced. If you got a year out of a bulb, your doing pretty good. I had one "burn out" and wouldn't fire. I replaced just that one bulb rather than both. I could really tell the difference between the old bulb and the new one.

Regardless of what happened I have read in numerous places that MH bulbs should be replaced every 6-8 months.
Here is a good list of articles on the subject
