Valonia. Better known as bubble algae. Get yourself an emerald crab or take your rock out and pry off the bubbles with a sharp knife, rinse well to get rid of the spores before you put the rock back in the tank.
Trouble with emeralds is they get mean when they get big, and I've heard they attack fish...Knives are more peaceful.

Manual removal works...just take care to aviod busting them...release of spores can cause them to rapidly spread. Emeralds do seem to work with new growth...and I've never had a issue with emeralds. i currently have 5 in my reef and a few are rather large. There are a few other natural predators...my rabbitfish makes a meal out of any that sprout up. At one time I had a moderately severe investation of the nasty stuff...manual removal...control of nutrients...natural predators worked for me. If left un-controlled they can grow to plague porportions and can out compete more desirable life.

I say the emerald wont touch that stuff. It is a little too big. I would remove it manually and also add an emerald for new growth. The emerald's do a great job. I have never had any problems with them. Knock on Wood!!!
