weird white stuff on my shroom!!

At first I thought it was some kind of nudibranch. But they're not moving, whatever they are. I got a single little red mushroom frag for display on another project (A magnetic frag rock):

And when I was done with the photoshoot, I moved the shroom down to the bottom of the tank. When I got up in the morning, I saw this:

And I took the shroom out. There's nothing in this tank except a green clown goby and a few blue leg hermits. Tank has some zoanthids, palys, GSP, a ric and some montis in it as well; everything else looks A-OK. Could this be the result of a few bites...? Here are some clearer shots out of the tank:

I tried to (CAREFULLY) remove the white strands, but they don't come loose. If these ARE the extruded innards of the shroom because of bites, I certainly don't want to disembowel him! Any ideas what I'm looking at here??

I've seen these come out of shrooms' mouths when they're stressed or tryin to fry a nearby coral.. it's very weird why they'd be coming out of somewhere besides the mouth though.. I wonder if something punctured it? Very weird.

yeah, that was my thought as well...maybe one of the hermits troed to climb on him...? He's in isolation right now, up near the lights but in a container of water that I'm swapping out every few hours. Funny thing is, those white areas now just look like tiny dots.
Anyone else seen this kind of behaviour?
