Well, He Ate Him...

Finally happened,
My Lion fish ate my Dragon Wrasse...
I was feeding silver sides and the Lion was on the prowl, snapping one after another...The Dragon Wrasse snagged one and went to "his" corner behind a rock to finish swallowing his...
The Lion went after one drifting in the current...The Dragon poked his head out with his silverside still hanging out of his mouth...
I figure the Lion went after the silverside but the Dragon was still attached to it...Boom...He's gone...
Oh Well, I guess that's the peril of having an Aggressive tank...
The Lionfis is over 12" and the Dragon Wrasse was pushing 4". (5 1/2" with the silverside sticking out of his mouth)

Have you thought of aggravating the lionfish at the time hoping he might spit the wrasse out? :notsure:

No...I think I stood there in a state of semi shock, disbelief and denial going "Damn, He ate my Wrasse..."
Good tip though..I'll keep it in mind if the situation arises again.

.. but lions can eat what ever can fit in their mouths.

No Doubt...and as he get's bigger so does his mouth...:D
I don't think he did it on "purpose" or out of hunger, just focusing on the silverside and the Wrasse was in the way...
I do need to be careful of the size of his tankmates though...I have a Panther Grouper now, about 3 1/2", in a "grow out" tank that I won't be adding for awhile...least till he hits a solid 4" or 5"
And I'm still looking for a Harliquin Tusk...but not under 5"

The harlequin tusk that I had for 2 years died last month, he was 7" head to tail!

So sorry to hear that. I feel your pain, though!
I wonder how many who post in aggressive have lost fish to other tank critters!

Damn, that's a hell of a food chain you've got going in there. When are you going to reassert your superiority and eat the green?
:D

Hehehehe! I'd do sushi, except I'm afraid of ciguatera poisoning!

Hey hey hey,
Fellow Texan, well by location I am actually a Floridian but don'd hate me!
I am down in Corpus and would love a Dragon Wrasse, they are in my top 3 favorite fish. If it is available, and the mad fish feeder has not put it on the menu, then I most assuredly want it.
