Depending on your fish load in this tank - you may not need a wet/dry filter.
Many on this board have found live rock and a DSB to be all the biological filtration required - especially with a reef tank - which normally has few fish and mostly corals.
You can certainly add a wet/dry or any other type filtration you want - it's your call, but aside from some added mechanical and biological filtration capacity - it may be unnecessary.
I run a 30 gallon with live rock and sandbed, and also have a wet/dry from earlier days, but have since removed most of the bioballs in the column. This leaves me with an expensive sump and convenient package under the tank - but I would do it differently if setting up this tank again.
If you're talking about the hang on the back powerfilters with biowheel wet/dry, I'll leave that for someone else to reply that actually uses them.
I don't - so I prefer not to speculate.
Although I do understand that they work well - and if you have NO live rock or live sand - is a decent way to go with FO tanks.
In your case - I'd just keep going as you are.
Live Rock
Live Sand - 4 inches minimum
Skimmer as you mentioned
Provide for excellent water circulation in the 30 with powerheads.
And make a habit of testing your water often.
Good luck - 30's are nice size tanks for a small reef IMO.
Later ;)
