wet-dry - LR or bioballs

Aggressive tank, large eel with few other large fish. Medium sand bed, 55g tank.
Do i keep the bio-balls or opt for a bunch of small pieces of LR?
Also do I keep the sponge-filter in there?
I've heard cases in the past for both, but do not remember the debate.
I'll probably put a sock filter over the syphon tube to catch some stuff. Thanks guys.

Personallly, with that setup I would heep the bioballs. Use the spong to keep stuff away from your return pump.
This will all change of course if you choose to start reefin'
IMHO of course.....
