Wet/dry or canister filter?

Your choice. A good canister filter provides excellent filtration and has the advantage of forcing water through whatever you place in the canister with no bypass which is great for charcoal, chem pure or whatever and will probably work fine for your tank. I ran a 90 gallon for quite some time on a canister and skilter with good result, but once I could afford a skimmer and wet/dry, I moved up. The advantages are many. The additional water volume is beneficial and you achieve greater oxygenation
with an open system than a closed canister. A good skimmer is one of the best ways to achieve better water quality, but the best ones sit in your sump rather than hang on the tank.
