Wet/dry with or without Protein skimmer?

Are the protein skimmers that are built in the wetdry filters a good idea? or is it better to have them separate? I am thinking about getting the ProClear Aquatics Pro150 Wet/Dry Filter.
or should i just save my money and get the lower model without the protein skimmer?
Also if the protein skimmer overflows will it just drain into the wet dry filter?
i am asking because the protein skimmer i have now is a hang on and it works "overtime" every now and then and it drained out 3gal. out of my tank.

Thank you

how many gollans is the skimmer rated for thats built in to the wet/dry?
if it isnt large enough you can always place your hob skimmer inside of the sump area if its large enough
my coralife skimmer did that to me once also it wasnt its fult a anemone got sucked up in pices some how and then clogged the drain part and it just backed all the water out and onto my floor entill the pump couldnt suck up any more water becuase the tank was SO LOW GRRRRR was awhile ago ruened my wall as alot of water went down the wall and the carpet is bleached from the salt i think
