What a crappy night!

Started about 5pm, power out, find out the wind blew a tree over into power lines two streets over from us, so we have no power until 3:30am, when I'm awakened by tank lights comming on(fell asleep on love seat waiting for everything to come back on) power surge took out our bigscreen tv, and a returnpump we bought about 6 months ago for our sump. Move tv from bedroom into family room and get everything hooked up, guess what, our dish network is out. We can tune into the Mystery channel only. Call them they can't come until Sat between 12-5 to adjust the dish. Then they tellme because the wind knocked it out of allignment they are going to charge me30.00 to fix it. I'm not a very happy camper today! My hubby is an insomnac(sp) and watchs alot of tv at night. Life sucks sometimes! Lisa

Tune it yourself, the carrier signal is under the options. Turn it until the Signal strength max's out. It is probably off either up and down or left and right. One person inside watchs the signal the other turns it. I have to do it on occasion. Plus who says it was your dish. There may be something blocking the signal between you and the satellite. The wind could have knocked something it to the way of the satellite line of sight.

kittykitty, We had cable until 2 years ago, we got tired of all the price jumps. We got the dish and have never looked back, better picture and a ton more channels for the price.

finding the signal is really easy. like he said it is probably off just a hair in one direction. before you start trying to point the dish in multiple directions are you sure it is the dish. if you lost a t.v. you may have lost a receiver. unplug it for like ten minutes to reset it.

black99l, it was all 4 of our recievers, not only the one that was connected to the tv that went.
Ok, got the dish fixed, cost nothing. I called them with a question and the guy that answered (from a totally different dept) he read the notes from earlier today, asked me if I had 15-20 minutes to try something, needless to say I was all for trying it. Anyway it paid off, all the recievers are up and running!:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Now if only my tv would work..

Thanks for the advice on adjusting the dish, I will keep it in mind for the future...Lisa

See I switched to cable from dish, because no matter where we put the damned dish, never failed, when it got cloudy, there was no tv. Seemed like it was like that for everyone I know that has dish.
Plus, I LOVE icontrol. it's great.

We had cable and switched to Direct TV 3 years ago and really have not had any problems. We just got TIVO last month and it is the best, I highly recommend it.

Im with you guys cable is crap, we got rid of cable in jan. best thing we ever did. With the dish we got more for our money. Plus we have never had the dish go out even during rain or snow. And the picture with the dish (we have a HDTV) is 100 times better than cable. Now if I could only get rid of there over priced low speed internet.

Cable is 100% crap.
Being as I work for my uncle who owns a business for DirecTv and Dish Network. The reason I think cable is crap is because, The price jumps all the freaking time its because businesses like viacom "the owner of MTV,Comedy Central, Nick, And many other channels decide that there going to raise the price for cable to get there stations, So cable being the little dip$shits they are just raise there price for the customer. I personally love Disk Network, Viacom tried to raise there prices for the channels and Dish Network just said NO WE WILL NOT SCREW OUR CUSTOMERS. So took viacoms channels off of dish network. It lasted about 3 days and viacom gave in So we didnt get our F'ing prices raised like cable would. I think it has something to do with dish network calling of of the companys that pay for commercials and saying wow you guys just lost 80 million viewers lol makes me laugh..
I hate the cable company
