What a night - damsel causes no more distress.

I brought home a trap last night to catch a blue velvet damsel that was terrorizing my tank and preventing me from putting anymore fish in my tank. He was responsible for killing my 3 clowns in a weekend a few weeks ago. I just bought a pair of firefish last night to see if he'd pick on them - he did, so he was gone IMO. I was impatient with the trap. There was no way he would fall for that one I thought. So... I tried with a net and a turkey baster to get him out. This is an inwall tank so I had my kids on the other side telling me where it went. With all my LR it was hopeless. I was tearing up the tank. I quickly emptied 1/3 of my tank water into a tupperware bin and took ALL of my LR and placed it in it. About 75 lbs or more. I finally caught the B. What a horrid mess in my tank though. I was sick. I have 2 rocks of shrooms, some zoos, Red Lobophillia coral, green stars, a 1/2 dozen fish, some crabs and anenomes all in a tank of swill. So much detrius on the bottom - grey colored. I thought my cleanup was doing its job but either I'm overfeeding or they'll be fired and I'll get a new cleanup crew. (I need to feed less and get a bigger crew). Anyways.... I tried placing the LR in there where I had it before - forget it. Lost cause. I placed the LR in there where ever for now. I filled the tank back up and turned all my stuff back on - filters, skimmer, PH's. This morning the tank is crystal clear and the LR actually doesn't look that bad.
No more damsel. :D

I actually thought of you last night Carole. I was debating changing from sand to a thin layer of cc. The sand gets so dirty it seems.

Yes - I did... I know you have a CC tank... one of the few. I talked to my LFS guy last night and he said he likes a thin layer of CC. Easier to keep clean and nitrates aren't a problem if you do it right.

:D :D LOL I know the feeling! Had to catch my damsel before a shipment of fish last week. WOW!! What a mess. I thought for sure my tank was a gonner. I had the worst time putting my LR back in - but now I think I like it better than before! Congratulations on your catch!!:)

i helped my buddy get a squirell out of his 150.we tried everything, trap, nightime with red lens on the flashlight and nets(fish aren't supposed to see red light this one did)!finally we had a brainstorm,we got a tiny fish hook #14 trout hook and a tiny piece of squid with in 1 minute he was in a bucket and on his way back to the lfs.it saved us from taking all his rock out and a lot of time.........bob

I put my LR in there at a rapid, random placement - just to get it in there. I think it looks better now than it did before! Funny.
