I just started a 55 gallon tank. Only have damsels so far, but looking to add more in a few weeks. What combination of aggresive fish would work well in a 55 galon tank?

Well you can put a volitan lion in there in hopes of getting rid of your devil, I mean damsels.
You can also put a slow growing triggers like huma huma or niger trigger. (not together with the lion of course)
Dwarf or fuzzy lions or smaller wrasse or dwarf angels and maroon clowns are also bit on the aggressive side.

These are some options (not all):
Dwarf lion
Snowflake eel
Maroon clown
Toby puffer (not with lion, it will nip at fins)
Flame Hawkfish
Dwarf angelfish (not with lion, it will nip at fins)
Certain Scorpionfish, such as a leaf fish or sting fish
Certain Anglers (frogfish)

A mix of up to 3 Dendrochirus sp. lions (M-F-F trio of D. brachypterus, or single specimens of brachypterus, zebra, barberi, or biocellatus).
Small species scorps (typically, Scorpaenodes sp.)
Waspfish (cockatoo, redfin, long spine)
Leaf fish (Taenianotus triacanthus
)
Stingfish (Chorydactylus, Inimicus
)
Bristletail filefish (Acreicthys tomentosus
)
I do think that unless you really
like the damsels, now is the time to get them out...they're nasty little suckers.

OK thanks for the advice. I will probably be taking the damsels back. Eventually I think I want my tank to include a niger trigger, toby puffer, leaf fish, and sting fish.

An Inimicus stingfish (goblin) will eat the leaf fish, but you could keep a Chorudactylus multibarbus (bearded ghoul) and a leaf fish together. The toby will likely pick on both fish tho.

No triggers belong in a 55.
The Toby is a 50/50 some are aggressive, some aren't. Mine is fine with other fish, but if anyone tries to mess with him, he lays down the law.
