dealers often say such things, regardless of the truth. i'm not saying they're wrong ... just not absolutely right. you'll find much better information from knowledgeable people on these boards.

hey .. yeah while I was gone I found out that my lights are 300W and I called my dealer (we know each other personally) and he said that the minimum for a BTA is 250-280 .. do you think he's right?

ok I looked at the bulbs and there is 2 pairs of really long bulbs and at the base of each pairs it says something about 96 watt dual Power Compacts .. and I know that they are PC's but what I was wondering was if you think that each pair is 96W resulting in 200W or if each bulb is 96W resulting in 400W ... either way .. I guess my dealer was wrong about my wattage .. he's the one that told me my wattage was 300 total .. ???

my lighting fixture says i have dual 65 watters, dual means the bulb has 2 tubes equaling 96 watts
i have a total of 130 watts

If it says 96 watts at the base, then it's 96 watts for the entire bulb (one pair as you call it). If I understand correctly then you have 192 total watts.

Yes you have 192w. Each PC bulb has 2 tubes which make up a single bulb. Or you can think of it as 2 bulbs. But either way, it is 96 w for that bulb. Add up the numbers on the base of the bulb, not the number of tubes.

ok thanks .. yeah it does look like that .. the only way I'll be able to put an anemone in that tank would be if I put it at the very top .. or should I not get one at all?

Do not get one at all. Most anemones need very intense light. The types of anemones that perculas host, which are carpet and ritteri, need
metal halide.

I have kept anemones for many years under pc lighting and vho, without MH.
There has to be enough light. I had a malu anemone for 5 years. It grew from 5" to the size of a dinner plate in a 50 gallon with 210 watts of pc's.
I had a Large carpet in a 65 for three years with 200 watts of pc light. (now in a 58 gallon under PC's)
I had BTA's for years under PC's.
I have LTA for over 5 years under MH. I did not try them under PC. (no room)
Just have good water and lots of light. 4 to 5 watts per gallon. The tank should be 24" or less. Lots of water flow too.
Thanks
Mal
