Which of the anemones listed below do not require the powerful lighting?
Long tenacle anemone

Depending on if you have enough lights at all, you can try the condy anemone. That is if you have enough lighting for it. A lower lighting anemone (that is lower lighting, not low lighting) still requires quite a bit of lights.

Please don't try to keep any anemone with Normal ouput lights, or lights that come with a kit aquarium.
At a minimum you need VHO or PC lights at about 4+ watts per gallon for the least light requiring anemone.
Anemones are 99% photosynthetic, or at least the zooxanthellae that live in them are, and they need it to survive, without it they die. some might say all you need to do is feed it more, thats incorrect in my opinion but can help to some extent, just not long term.

I just bought a PC 130 watts for my 37 gallon. I think that's 3.5 watts per gallon. Did I just waste my money? I was hoping to get an Anemone.

Well my first choice would be to talk you into more lighting, however. I'm no expert on PC lighting. I was successful with VHO at 4.22 watts per gallon, before upgrading.
There are only two anemones I would try with only 4 WPG, BTA=bubble tip anemones or Haitian=Condy anemones.

At 3.5 per gallon with PC you are right on the edge. I would recommend a BTA as mine has done well with 3.3 per gallon of PC (upgrading to MH within a week anyway).
With PC, the actinic wattage does not "count" towards the per gallon number as the actinic spectrum is not very useful for an anemone. Go with 10,000K for all but one bulb and then go with a 50/50 for appearance.
Also, keep the lights as close to the water (2" is about right) for max penetration. Be sure to clean the salt from the plexiglass it least weekly.
Be sure to feed the anemone as well--it least weekly.
Follow this, and you should be ok if you start out with a healthy anemone.
Good luck!
Go ILLINI!!! :cheer:

While not a true anenome and a poor choice if you are looking for a host for a clown, a tube anemone does not require light at all. They come in some very vibrant colors. Some say they are possible fish eaters and are very aggressive. Í´ve also heard otherwise. I´ve had one for about two months and it hasn´t done anything wrong yet.

Good info. Thanks.
The light I bought was a Current USA Orbit PC 24" 65x2
Half is Antic, and the other is regular light. Your saying that since half of the light is antic, I won't truely have 130watts for the anenome. If so, that really sucks. What if I change the bulbs and use the PC for all the regular lighting. Then use my regular NO fixture for antic lighting. Would that work? Just when you thought you were on the right track. Man that's frustrating. ANd the guys at the LFS's are like sure that will definitely be enough light. Jack a$$es. Thanks for the heads up before I killed an anenome.
