This will probably be moved to the reef section, but an amazingly beautiful fish and perfect for a nano is the neon or blue velvet damsel. I have had one in my 29g for about 2 1/2 years now and it is one of the most amazingly beautiful little fishes in the world. They won't touch coral, and it has lived peacefully with my yellow watchman goby the whole time. Look them up. They're very inexpensive and hardy as a carp.

Welcome to the site!
A damsel will outgrow a 14g tank, they grow to about 4 inches, they do bite drawing blood when mature, and they do kill any fish more timid than themselves. They are very aggressive. They are beautiful and do just fine for about two years..then they become the most evil fish God put on earth IMO, a very poor choice.
You said you have been into saltwater for a while, so maybe some dwarf seahorses...however, you must raise live food for them, you sound like the kind of person who could handle that.
Yellow clown gobies are super bright yellow, and they stay tiny.

I'm not sure if you've kept blue velvet damsels then. They rarely get over 3 1/2" and I have kept them with 2 pajama cardinals and the yellow watchman. While mildly territorial-definitely not an aggressive damsel at all. And I kinda think at 3 1/2 years old, it's about as mature as it's gonna get.

14 gallon? Personally not a big fan of the damsel in that small of a tank. it will turn into a slaughterhouse. Unless it is a species only tank. Then they washout.

A 3.5 fish in a 14g???? I still loath damsels of all sorts and I still say they are evil and you couldn't pay me to keep one.

Blue Velvet Damsels really shouldn't be characterized as evil little fish like the rest of the damsels. They're not nearly as aggressive, nor do they get as large. It would be a good option with a small little goby such as a Green Banded Goby.
I loved my 14G BioCube. Here's some of the fish I kept in it (always with corals):
Two Ocellaris Clownfish - juveniles (I don't really recommend this long term in this size tank)
1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
1 Green Clown Goby
various snails and hermits
1 Orange Spotted Filefish (ate frozen, etc. not a fish I recommend)
1 Tail Spot Blenny
1 Yasha Goby w/ Pistol shrimp
Fire Shrimp
various snails and hermits

Fire Shrimp
Maxima Clam - 3"
various snails and hermits
One of the best additions for a small little tank like this is a goby/pistol shrimp pair. They don't get lost in a nano setup like they can in a larger tank, and really are cool little creatures to watch work together. You could do a goby/shrimp combo with another small fish like a firefish or something similar and it would work well.

I dunno, I have a velvet, he took care of business, so to speak... They may be more docile, but that is like saying AZ is a dry heat, it is still hot...
