MH's will cost a lot brand new up front, but in the long run, you'll be very happy.
If you're looking to save some money, try local reef forums in your area and see if you can get a good deal on a used one. Just be aware, if you buy used: The bulbs need to be replaced every 8-12 months, so unless they can provide you with receipts on how old the bulbs are, you'll have to replace them and MH HQI bulbs can run you anywhere from $45-100 depending on what bulb you go with so sometimes it pays to just buy the new fixture.

so if i did get a 250 watt mh does that heat up enough to where i need a chiller??
It all depends on the size of your tank, how long you keep the lights on, what the temperature of the room the tank is in is kept at year round..
I have a 155 with halides and don't need a chiller. Even in the summer I have a heater on 24/7 set to keep my tank at 80. The room I keep my tank in is cool year round though. Some people need chillers, some don't. Since it's winter, you can get a good gauge of whether or not you'll need one by summer time.
You should know that if with MH's your tank is only rising a few degrees, strategically placed fans can drastically lower the temp.
